AP Art History

This course will provide students with a chronological overview of the development of art beginning with Prehistoric art and ending with Post Modernism. The course will survey the development of art through different cultures and time periods. Students will learn to formally analyze works of art using the elements of art and the principles of design. The course will emphasize the comparative analysis of works of art as well as understanding the works within their political, social, and religious contexts. Students will be introduced to artistic terminology and techniques in order to develop the vocabulary necessary to discuss and analyze the works of art through discussion, written assignments, and tests. The course will help students develop critical thinking to draw parallels between artistic styles, cultures, and time periods, as well as prepare individuals for the AP exam. Course Length: Year Long. Open to Grades: 10, 11, 12. Prerequisites: None.
